Could the Ice Maker Simply Be Switched Off?
The short answer
Quite often, so read the panel first: a Sub-Zero with an ice maker key or icon shows plainly whether the ice maker is running.
Check in this order
- Look for one lit ice-cube icon on a Classic, or the word ICE beside the freezer temperature on a 600, 700-2 or 700-3.
- Open Options on a Designer touchscreen and touch the ice-cube icon until only the front cube is highlighted.
- Seat the bin fully on an original 700 or a 550, 511 or 501F, where removing it is the off switch.
- Give it 24 hours after switching on before judging.

Behind the answer
On a Designer one icon cycles through on, Max Ice and off, so a stray third touch while wiping the screen leaves the ice maker idle.
If the panel shows it on, and any shut-off arm is down, the cause lies further back.
