Is a Dripping Inlet Valve Urgent?
The short answer
Yes: close the water supply today and book the repair, because a valve that drips between fills keeps adding water until someone shuts it off.
Check in this order
- Close the shut-off valve on the water line now, or the house main if that valve is behind the unit.
- Switch the ice maker off at the panel, since left on with the water shut off it can freeze its own fill tube.
- Mop up and lay towels wherever water showed: the bin, around the ice maker or the base.
- Note where the water reappears first and roughly when, ready for the technician.

Behind the answer
The inlet valve should pass water only when the ice maker, or a dispenser, calls for it. Sub-Zero fits no shut-off inside the unit, so a valve that seeps between calls has nothing to stop it.
Where the drip ends up depends on how the valve fails and where it is fitted: ice building up in the ice maker, water standing in the bin, or damp at the base.
