Can an Undercounter Ice Machine Live Outdoors Here?
The short answer
Only a model Sub-Zero rates for outdoor use belongs outside, such as the DE50I or a UC-15I ending in O, and even that one wants shade and a winter shutdown.
Check in this order
- Read the model number on the rating plate; outdoor UC-15I versions end in O.
- Give it shade: the bin is not refrigerated, and the UC-15I guide expects 50°F to 110°F around its outdoor model.
- If it goes dark, press reset once on the GFCI Sub-Zero requires outdoors; if it trips again, leave it off and call.
- Plan the winter shutdown before the first freezing night; the UC-15I guide wants one whenever the machine will see 32°F or below.

Behind the answer
That shutdown starts with the usual clean and sanitize, then the breaker and the water supply go off. After that the water line comes off at the back and every supply and drain line is emptied, with compressed air if needed: technician work.
Indoors it is the reverse, since Sub-Zero does not recommend a GFCI on the indoor model, as it may interrupt operation. In full sun, an undercounter ice machine spends its time replacing melted ice.
